Yoshio Yamazaki
Yoshio began his professional journey in real estate and advertising before transitioning to agriculture in 1999, starting with just 3 hectares of land in Sugito, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Now in his 25th year of farming, he operates a thriving agricultural enterprise spanning 110 hectares, with rice as his primary crop.
Driven by a vision of farming as a precision-driven, profitable, and sustainable industry, Yoshio has pioneered a manufacturing-style approach to agriculture. His innovative methods have set new standards, with Yamazaki Rice achieving an exceptional gross margin of 39%. This margin has been further enhanced through his adoption of Water-Saving Dry Direct Seeding, a cutting-edge rice cultivation methodology.
In 2022, Yoshio integrated xarvio® FIELD MANAGER into his operations, implementing variable-rate fertilisation using smart rice planting machines and drones across his entire farm. This data-driven approach led to an impressive average yield increase of 15%.
Recognised for his forward-thinking practices, Yoshio became an ecosystem partner of BASF in 2024, contributing to the development and operation of xarvio® HEALTHY FIELDS. His work continues to inspire a new generation of farmers committed to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.
