Leyla Boumghar-Bourtchai
Dr. Leyla currently leads the R&D of the PepsiCo, Global Consumer Science and APAC & India Foods Region. She joined PepsiCo in December 2024 and base in Shanghai. She brings more than 20 years’ experience in R&D functions with a focus on strategic business leadership, business development, insights, and category innovation.
Dr. Leyla graduated from Microbiology Department, University Hospital of Caen in Microbiology and M.S degree in Molecular Biology & Physiology. Leyla is a Doctor of Pharmacy and holds a PhD in molecular biology.
With a commitment to drive purposeful brand building, she believes that innovators should not only drive business growth but also create a positive, long-lasting impact on the local communities. Under her leadership, PepsiCo R&D teams work together to translate cutting-edge technology and consumer insights into actual product innovation. From the laboratory to the production line, every step embodies the relentless pursuit of quality and innovation.
Her team has delivered many award-winning programs recognized for research excellence and innovation. Through integrated beverage and food R&D capabilities, Chinese scientists provide strong support for PepsiCo’s innovation agenda across China, APAC, and Global. With 150–200 innovation projects launched annually, this dynamic ecosystem has become one of PepsiCo’s most productive innovation hubs. Rooted in Eastern wisdom and consumer insights, the team has developed products loved across APAC, while increasingly inspiring innovation and product development in Western markets.
