Ferdinand Los

CEO, HUDSON RIVER BIOTECHNOLOGY

Dr. Ferdinand Los is co-founder and CEO of Hudson River Biotechnology, a Wageningen-based agricultural biotechnology company applying New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) for crop improvement. A biologist specialising in genetics and cell biology, Ferdinand trained at Utrecht University, UC San Diego and Columbia University before moving into science and business consulting. Since co-founding Hudson River in 2015, he has led the company’s development from technology pioneer to commercial partner for plant breeders. Under his leadership, Hudson River developed BioMaas, a transgene-free NGT workflow that brings novel traits to commercial crops such as strawberry and tomato, helping breeders respond to climate change and shifting consumer demand. Working with breeders, trait developers and grower associations in Europe and the Americas, Ferdinand focuses on turning advances in plant biotechnology into crops that are ready for the market.
