Bo is an associate professor, soybean breeding lead, in School of Plant and Environmental Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The mission of her research program is to develop elite soybean varieties adapted to Mid-Atlantic region using both classical and molecular breeding methodologies. Dr. Zhang has released 22 varieties and one germplasm including GMO, conventional, food-grade and value-added soybeans since 2016. She has been the Virginia plant breeder representative of National Association of Plant Breeding since 2016. She won a team award in 2022, research excellence in applied science award in 2023, and commercialization champion in 2024 at Virginia Tech. Dr. Zhang has published more than 90 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has established collaboration with multiple industries in seed business, seed production and exportation, meal processing, etc. to learn and fulfill seed market needs, consumer preference, and the demand trend of soybean cultivars.
