What opportunities and responsibilities are you seeing for CPGs as supply chains and consumer needs change?
“As a supply chain and consumer initiative, we're definitely seeing that this is an opportunity for CPGs to rethink how we source, make, and deliver our products.
We're actually making our value chain a lot more regenerative, resilient, and more agile, using technology to to source more diverse crops and also to enable more innovations that feed the consumer needs.
Now, with the opportunity, it also comes with greater responsibility.
We're actually helping a lot of our partners to improve their production efficiency, especially our farmer partner, the yield efficiency.
And at the same time, we are also driving reduced usage of inputs as well as the impact on the environment.
Asia's food landscape is actually very interesting.”

What do global companies like PepsiCo need to understand about Asia's agri-food landscape to succeed here?
“We believe that it is not about one Asia. It is really a mosaic of different markets where the farming practices are quite different.
On the one hand, you have Australia and China, where there are big ecosystems, scaled operations with a lot of technology-enabled solutions. And on the other hand, we also see a lot of practices by smallholder farmers particularly in the ASEAN countries. So our role is to actually work with many different diverse partners and enabling them and using PepsiCo as a soil for them to scale solutions. The market provides a very diverse and dynamic entrepreneurship where a lot of bold ideas by innovators are being tested. And then we are offering support, venture support, mentorship support, and also incubation support so that their solutions to be scaled using the power of PepsiCo.”

Why is it important for you to be part of agri-food innovation events like this?
“A lot of what we do, for example, driving food security, really managing the resilience of our supply chain, cannot be handled in isolation.
So me coming to here, it is really just to get inspired by the various ideas to learn about the practices and also to share, share the pilots that we have at PepsiCo and hopefully to drive a lot more dialogue and collaborations going forward.”
